Last night the doctor called while we were en route to the hospital to say that Maximo was maybe going to be pulled off the respirator. He looked good last night and was responsive to our voices and touches, so that was comforting.
We went into the hospital this morning to a baby with no breathing tube! They took it out this morning around 7:30 and he was doing well when we went there around 8:30. The doctor just called again to say that he was really happy how well Maximo was doing. He tolerated all his feedings yesterday, so they are going to up his feedings too. It was nice to see him this morning and see him opening his eyes (he's been wearing baby shades due to the phototherapy he's been receiving). He looked a bit tuckered out this morning, but still had good color and was starting to fuss when the nurse changed his diaper.
It's been a tough and I'm exhausted. I've been pumping every 2 1/2 - 3hours, even waking in the middle of the night. It's strange not to be pregnant nor have a baby home with us. Seeing him this morning opening his eyes makes it worth getting up at 3am to listen to the murmur of the pump. More later.
