I'm starting this blog for a couple of reasons:
1. I cannot talk to many people outside of Peru from the hospital without the internet
2. I can't seem to find the words without breaking into tears and my c-section incision isn't loving the stress.
I'm in fear that this blog will not be long, but hope that this will continue to be a journal of Max's progress as he grows up.
Max was born Tuesday the 28th of August at 31 weeks gestation. He was not ready, unfortunately Mommy's body was... He was born at 1765 grams and 41.5 cm. He has good color and seems to be a fighter. As of yesterday, he is hooked up to an oxygen machine through his nose, a drain tube for his mouth, and his umbilical cord has a stent for continued feedings.
Last night, we were awakened by the doctor at 2:30 to say that he was not doing well. He has a pneumothorax, so somehow oxygen was escaping his lungs and going into his chest cavity. They called in a neonatal surgeon, who put a tube in to release this air and after an xray, he seemed to be improving.
We've slept for a few hours and hope that each day he'll get stronger. I'm pumping my colostrum right now, so when he's ready for it, it's there, and I'll be ready later when he can actually breastfeed.
2:00 PM - Dr. Zagarra has been by and said that Max is stable. It looks like he's going to be now on a ventilator for 4-5 days, but the doctor seems positive. I think we've got a long road ahead of us, but Los Lemleys will persevere.
