Argentina Update:
We are winding down our trip to Mendoza, Argentina - Maximo's first trip! It's been a learning experience for us. Let me start from the beginning while trying not to ramble on. Maximo was WONDERFUL on both flights and throughout the first very long travel day. He was up at 4 am in Lima and we didn't arrive at our hotel until 7 pm (4 pm Lima time) that afternoon. Then we had a rough few days... Maximo and I got sick - we both had terrible colds and the dry climate left us very congested. He was very fussy - and we both were thinking that maybe this trip wasn't such a good idea. We were wondering where our happy baby went, but thankfully he returned! He's back to just fussing when he's hungry or tired. He's now sleeping with us, because he went for a few days of crying if he was put down at all. Since we've been staying in hotels, we really don't want to inconvenience anyone else, so before the end of a first whimper, he's already in our arms. Hopefully this will be easy to break once we're back home in Lima. Especially since we go back to work in about ten days (ugghhh).
He's been touring wine bodegas with us and is really enjoying time in the stroller. The weather has been perfect and in the afternoons, we have been going for nice long walks on the beautiful wide sidewalks around town.
Eating dinner is our biggest challenge. Most restaurants don't open until 9 pm (yes, even later than Peru), so it really is tough. After the first day, we decided to stay on "Lima time", so we're functioning 3 hours behind everyone else;) So, dinner at 9 pm here is really only 6 pm in Lima. The other night, we actually got through a whole dinner with him hanging out (awake) in the stroller. Normally, it's one of us walking around with him while the other is eating. Though during one lunch a lady at the table next to us offered to take him while we ate - nice!
To the Mendocinos, it looked like we kept our baby out until 11 pm, little did they know it was only 8 pm in Peru. ** Insert parent of the year award here - taking your 5 month old to vineyards and wine tastings and keeping him out until 11 pm. **
He's been talking to us a lot more the past few days, it's been really cute. He'll respond to us talking to him. His hair looks ridiculous, even more so here because THEY SHAVE BABIES HEADS here. It's tradition before they leave the hospital (along with girls getting their ears pierced). Supposedly, it helps their hair grow in evenly and thick. So if it's not already beautiful and thick, it just looks like a summer buzz cut - not a patchy, strange looking head like Maximo's.
It's amazing how fast he's growing up right before our eyes...
So tomorrow we head back to Lima, hopefully we'll have a calm travel day. We'll post pictures when we return.
