The Crab Shack is one of my favorite eateries on Tybee Island (actually just before the island if you know the area). It is a HUGE outdoor restaurant on the marsh that specializes in Low Country Boil - a big pot with shrimp, crawdads, stone crab and snow crab legs, corn, potatoes and sausage seasoned with a bit of Old Bay seasoning. It's messy, a lot of work, but delicious. Well, last Sunday was Maximo's first visit to the Crab Shack. We noticed that it's the perfect place to bring kids because it's messy and since it's outdoors and there are outdoor fans, Max could meltdown and not many people would notice. There's also a hole in the table for trash, which is an added bonus which will probably WOW! Maximo when he gets older.
They've recently added an alligator exhibit. You can feed the alligators and watch them hang out. Max wasn't too interested in it, but Charlie loved it and could hardly get through dinner wanting to see the alligators.
Here's a shot of some of the alligators, who were all born and raised in captivity. They're pretty little - not the huge ones you may imagine living in the Everglades or in the wild in the marshes of Georgia. I especially love the Maximo-sized one the third from the left. We now have an affinity for pint-sized little runts.
