I think the last time I posted an entry with this title, it had a totally different meaning - I think it was Maximo's first day home. It's nice to be home, though not as nice as it was to have Maximo finally home after a month in the NICU. We had a fantastic time visiting our families and introducing our mother land to Junior, but it's nice to sleep in our own beds too!
Our last day in Savannah started early, about 3:00 am. Maximo woke up burning with fever. He was red in the cheeks and really, really warm, but we didn't have a thermometer, so we're not sure how high his temp was. After some Tylenol and a little cuddle and play time, Max was back to sleep about an hour later. He slept for another two hours or so, and woke up screaming again, so we dressed and packed up for the morning and headed to Gigi's (John's mom). Mothers usually have the answers to everything, so we sought her advice and the use of her phone book. We looked up an urgent care clinic and headed over there.
Of course, by the time we were seen, Maximo had almost no temperature. He had no symptoms of anything else at all. We wanted him checked out to make sure it wasn't an ear infection or something in his chest before we hopped on an international flight. The doctor said there's a virus going around and he probably has that or is teething. So, with that and advice on keeping him hydrated and how to keep his temperature down, we left.
Max was on and off fussy for most of the day. We saw Gigi, Papa and Coco (grandparents) for the last time and started our monstrous task of packing all of our stuff - 6 - 48.5 lb. bags, 2 carry-ons, a carseat, a stroller and a partridge and a pear tree.
Yesterady, we had a very LONG, but uneventful travel day. Maximo was a dream (again). He didn't so much as fuss the whole day. He slept the whole flight from Savannah to Newark (yes we went north to go south) and for almost three hours on the Newark to Lima flight.
Now, we're unpacking all of our junk and trying to resume our routine. Maximo has never been a wonderful sleeper, but over the vacation, we utterly screwed up his schedule. He was falling asleep in our arms, taking at least one good nap a day but then oftentimes sleeping in the car en route to somewhere, and usually in the wee hours of the morning, he'd awaken for his bottle, and he'd fuss when he went back to his tent, so I tucked him in between us in bed where he would sleep the rest of the night.
Needless to say, there was a bit (only 10 minutes) of crying before settling down in his crib tonight and he took 3 crappy 30-45 minute naps today. Hopefully we'll get his routine back this week before we start back at school next week (sniffle, sniffle).
NOTE: I'm posting old blog entries I've written the past few days and adding pictures, so some of these may be out of order.
