Maximo had his first visit from the physical therapist today. We were curious what physical therapy for a baby would be like. Kathy, his therapist, first started with a little massage, which he enjoyed thoroughly. Then she starting working on his muscles. Most importantly, we need to work on Maximo's neck, by putting him on his stomach more and when he's on his back, help him keep his head with his face straight rather than to the side. The other thing we need to work on is to "even out" his leg strength. He uses his left leg a lot more than his right, so it is stronger. We need to "force him" to use his right leg more. Nothing looked abnormal. Kathy said that preemies often just need more time to learn to use their muscles properly. We think the therapy will be good for Max's development, since he's definitely not a three month old developmentally. Kathy's going to come once a week and we'll work with him daily.
On other exciting news, Maximo is smiling! He was sporatically doing it for the past few weeks, but now he's really looking at us and smiling. It's super cute. Now, if we can only get a picture of it!
