We had our first family outing today- to the Dr.'s office. He gained 20 grams. That's not bad, especially since before he left the hospital he was only receiving breastfeedings three times a day exclusively and the rest were given to him through a syringe. He is 45 centimeters now too (up from 41.5 at birth). The doctor says he looks good and strong. We do, however, have a bit of a road ahead of us. In the next two weeks, I need to make appointments with a neurologist (to make sure his brain is developing properly), a pediatric opthamologist because premature babies are prone to eye problems - his retinas are premature and he'll need routine exams, and a physical therapist - not that anything is wrong, but Dr. Zegarra wants to take a proactive approach and help with his gross motor skills. So, I'll be doing a lot of running around with Maximo. Otherwise, he's doing well. He's still preferring sleeping over eating, so I've been stripping him down to his diaper and socks to keep his attention at meal time. We're going to another doctor for the next two weeks while Dr. Zegarra is in Spain, so we have our next weight check on Monday.
Oh, last night, Maximo had his first real bath. He LOVED it! When we first set him in the water he fussed a bit, then his eyes got wide and he just loved being stroked with the wash cloth and being doused with water. We posted some pictures where the link is below, so if you're interested, they are there.
